Voter’ registration exercise is in phases – Supervisor

Eligible voters have been urged to find out when the voters’ registration exercise would be held within their respective registration centres to enable them to register without massing at one centre.

This would help ease congestion at the centres and make the exercise a lot more convenient for all participants, Madam Stephanie Mireku Asante, the Deputy Supervisor at the Adentan Registration Centre, told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday.

She said it appeared most people did not know that the voters registration exercise was being done on a six-day duration period per area.

Madam Mireku said this meant after every six days, the registration teams moved to other centres within the same area.

She said there were posters all over to indicate when the respective areas within the country would be covered hence no need to move all the way from one’s area to another area to register.

“You only have to find out the week within which the registration officials would work in your area and wait for them to come over,” Madam Mireku said.

She said the exercise had so far gone on successfully without setbacks at the centres in the area.

Mr Benjamin Quaye, Special Duties Officer at the Lake Side Police Station Registration Centre, emphasised on the need to intensify public education on the process, especially the movement of the registration teams.

He urged the electorate to wait patiently for the exercise to begin in their respective areas to prevent overcrowding.

There were long queues at all the registration centres visited by the GNA at Adentan and Ashaley Botwe, but most of the people were wearing face masks.

There were, however, a few who did not properly observe safety protocols and were heartily talking without masks or maintaining a safe distance from each other.
