The Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, has warned against inciting youth to violence by politicians during election periods.

According to him, if they have issues, they should use legal means and channels to address them rather than incite their followers to wreak havoc.

Speaking on issues pertaining to the voters register, the EC and the NDC’s demonstration, while speaking on Hello FM on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah stated “We have to appeal to the politicians to stop involving their followers and the youth in election related violence.”

His comments come after the #EnoughIsEnough demonstration organised by the National Democratic Congress against the Electoral Commission on September 17, 2024.

The NDC is demanding a forensic audit of the voters' register ahead of the upcoming December 7 elections, claiming they found anomalies in the register during their internal review.

The nationwide demonstration, which began peacefully in the Ashanti Region, took a violent turn, resulting in reported injuries to police personnel and some protesters, as well as the arrest of others.

Additionally, the protesters caused significant damage to the EC’s office in the region, breaking glass doors.

Reacting to the turn of events, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah expressed worry that the standoff between the EC and the political parties could lead to imminent violence and chaos if the electoral body does not address the pending issues and concerns of Ghanaians to reach an understanding.

Referencing the chaotic and violent nature of the demonstration in the Ashanti Region, he emphasized that failure to address these issues could lead to Ghanaians taking matters into their own hands, which the country cannot allow.

“If the Electoral Commission fails to address issues related to the voters' register to ensure peace and understanding among the political parties, and if they continue to make dangerous and inciting comments, people will take matters into their own hands and resort to violence.

“The number of people who set out to demonstrate across the country conveys a significant message. We urge them [EC] to address any issues to ensure that people feel at ease and to avoid any imminent violence that may erupt,” he stressed.
