Daniel Bugre Naabu, Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said the current Ghana's voters' register was not credible for a free and fair election and needs a replacement.
He appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to as a matter of urgency begin the process of replacing the register for the 2016 general elections, adding that, the register was not only bloated but was filled with names of foreign nationals, which must be removed.
Mr Naabu, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale at the weekend, alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was largely to be blamed for the current state of the register.
He said: “If the NDC had nothing mischievous to hide, why will they be defending the issue? They should allow the EC to clean the register for the interest of the whole nation”.
Mr Naabu said the ongoing investigations by the NPP, with regards to the number of Burkinabe and Ivorian nationals captured in the voter’s register would reveal the truth about its authenticity.
The Regional Chairman said it is unfortunate that the NDC was doing everything possible to win the 2016 elections saying “we will not allow them to steal the elections”.
On the current financial debates within the NPP, Mr Naabu urged party loyalists to remain calm since a committee has been instituted to investigate the matter.
Mr Naabu appealed to the rank and file of the party to strengthen its unity drive to ensure that the 2016 elections becomes a victory for the NPP as the NDC has woefully failed Ghanaians in all their policies.
He called on Ghanaians to believe in the NPP to salvage the nation.
