WACC Group gives West African parents of Whitman middle school a thanksgiving treat

As part of their annual tradition, the West African Community Collaborative (WACC) treated parents of West African students in Whitman Middle School in Alexandria who participate in their youth workshops a Thanksgiving treat offering them fresh and seasoned Turkey for their Thanksgiving celebration.

WACC USA is a collaborative civil association of community organizations; nonprofit, faith-based and direct-service organizations that provide services to the African community in Northern Virginia.

The group has in the past 3 years been organizing tutoring programs for the students and workshops for the parents on a monthly basis.

The turnout has been very encouraging and the parents and students have been benefiting tremendously from the information provided.

On Saturday, November 17 they hosted the parents to a free workshop on MEDICAID and affordable health Care facilitated by Young Invisibles.org whilst the students participated in their mentoring program.

Referrals received by WACC are serviced by individual member-organizations within the collaborative group and partners with local schools and the County.

West African community Collaborative Group led by Ms. Vivian Boakye facilitate and organize workshops that address the needs of the African community which include: Interpretation Services, Healthcare education and enrollment, Cultural sensitivity training, Mental health education & advocacy, County resource navigation categories and also arrange college familiarization tours.

At the end of the day's event on Saturday, November 17, 2018, each parent walked home with a special Thanksgiving package.
