Opposition parties in Ghana are demonstrating in Accra against recent hikes in petroleum prices. The parties ? the National Democratic Congress, the EGLE Party, Convention People?s Party, the Reform Party and the Convention People?s Party ? formed a coalition, known as the Joint Action for Change, to organize the demonstration.
Thousands of people gathered at the Holy Gardens, Kwame Nkrumah Circle to be addressed by leading members of the various parties before proceeding on the protest march. Also present was former President Jerry Rawlings and his wife as well as the NDC?s presidential candidate in the December polls, Prof. John Atta Mills.
The speakers accused the Kufuor administration of insensitively increasing fuel prices. This, they said, has worsened economic hardship in the country and created too much ?wahala? for Ghanaians. The protest will end at parliament house where the demonstrators will present a petition to the leadership of the house.
