Akim Awisa (E/R), Dec. 20, GNA - The Rev. Emmanuel Yaw Adjei, Chairman of the West Akim Presbytery (WAP) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has appealed to the Ghanaian public to get deeply involved in the promotion of Primary Health Care. Rev. Adjei made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Akim Awisa near Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, shortly after inaugurating a 900,000- Ghana Cedis Computer laboratory for the Junior High School here.

He said, the development of every nation largely depended on the health status of the citizenry, adding: "I want to add my voice to the numerous calls made to help change the attitude of our general lifestyles towards poor health standards".

The Chairman called on the churches, district assemblies, traditional authorities and all Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to embark upon education and awareness campaigns.

He noted that the idea for the establishment of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was great, since it sought to offer relief to the general public by "bringing health to the doorsteps of the people". He therefore, urged the people to register massively for the scheme to achieve its maximum aim. According to him, managers of the Scheme had to work diligently to ensure constant payments for the necessary inputs such as drugs, consumables, laboratory reagents and other items needed for the provision of services at the hospitals and other service points, to enable their clients live happily with the Scheme. He reminded those who had not married to abstain from early sex, while couples remained faithful to their partners, since the HIV/AIDS was a killer disease. He was happy that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana had adopted a national policy towards helping to eradicate the menace of the disease.

"Let us manage to take good diet regularly, rest and above all to exercise the body", Rev. Adjei pointed out, adding that, these could help maintain healthy life, which God could use as a noble vessel to propagate the Gospel. 20 Dec. 08
