Kpone, Sep 30, GNA - Officials of the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) has handed over the keys of a GH¢65,000 teachers' quarters to the Kpone Traditional Council on Tuesday. This is in line with the company's Community Development Programme being implemented in Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, and Togo. Mrs Harriet Wereko-Brobby, General Manager of Corporate Affairs of WAPCo, presented the keys of the building to the President of the Council, Nii Tetteh Otu, who in turn handed them over to the authorities of the Ghana Education Service.

Mrs Wereko-Brobby said WAPCo believed in equal opportunity for all and urged managers of the facility to ensure fair and transparent allocation and management.

She said WAPCo had enjoyed a very harmonious relationship with the Kpone community, characterized by trust and mutual respect. Mrs Wereko-Brobby pledged WAPCo's determination to provide modest support from its limited resources to complement the government's programmes and initiatives.

Mrs Victoria Opoku, Metropolitan Director of Education whose speech was read for her, expressed regret that over the years teachers' accommodation had been a major challenge facing the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Mr Robert Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the facility would motivate teachers in the area who commuted long distances to school. Mr Ofosuware appealed to other corporate bodies within the metropolis to support other deprived communities, especially in health and educational infrastructure. Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, the Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso, said he would use substantial part of his share of the MP's Common Fund to support education in the constituency.
