Samsam-Odumase (G/A), Oct. 17, GNA - Delegations from the World of Hope International (WOHI), a non-governmental organisation based in the USA on Friday donated anti HIV/AIDS drugs and kits for testing, worth 7,000 dollars to the Ga West District HIV/AIDS Project. Making the presentation at Samsam-Odumase, Madam Monica Westin, founder of WOHI said, their gesture forms part of WOHI's effort to assist people living with HIV/AIDS in the district to live longer. Other members of the delegation are Madam Christine Rappopor and Barbara Knaub.
Madam Westin said WOHI collaborates with community leaders to foster relationship and create an acceptable format to communicate important health messages for young people.
She said, "we believed that educational opportunity and support is one important way to start combating HIV/AIDS at the most basic level. Mr Nash Abbey, Youth Director and HIV/AIDS Co-ordinator in the GA West District, who received the drugs, tanked the NGO for the donation and for promoting health and education in the area. He said sexual and reproductive health of the youth was increasingly becoming a serious problem and pledged the assembly's full support for WOHI projects in the district towards the fight against HIV/AIDS in particular.
In 2004, WOHI donated HIV/AIDS drugs worth 10,000 dollars to the district.
