Thu, 13 Sep 2001 Source: Joy Online

One Ghanaian woman has been confirmed dead in the aircraft attack on the World Trade Centre in down town Manhattan, New York. The woman works at Meryll Lynch Financial Company located in the World Trade Centre building. A Ghanaian resident in the United States, Fiifi Ofori Atta told JOYFM in an interview that when all attempts to reach the woman on her phone proved futile, some of the Ghanaian residents became concerned about her plight.

She was later identified at a hospital by her sister. Some Ghanaians who work at the Centre are believed to have died in the attack but they have not been identified yet.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has not received any official information on the fate of Ghanaians who may have been caught up in the US attack as countries around the world count the loss of their nationals.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Hackman Owusu Agyeman told JOY FM that his office is in constant touch with Ghana’s embassy in Washington, for any information on Ghanaians living or working in and around the lower Manhattan area or Washington DC.
