Twifo-Darmang (C/R), May 18, GNA - Officials of the Lower-Denkyira District branch of the World Vision Ghana (WVG) on Wednesday organised a tree planting exercise at Twifo-Darmang in the Central Region to round off World Vision International (WVI's) 21 st. anniversary celebration in Ghana.
Personnel of the District Forestry Service, District Administration and workers of the Non-Formal Education Division of the Ministry of Education assisted WVG to plant more than 500 tree seedlings.
The WVG Area Manageress, Mrs. Dora Owusu, said the programme would be extended to other communities in the district during the main rainy season. Mrs Owusu expressed her appreciation to the chiefs and people of Twifo-Darmang for their support and commitment to the objectives set by the WVG, and advised them to maintain the spirit.
She also thanked other stakeholders for their high level of collaboration with the WVG in the district. Mr Michael Amponsah, District Chief Executive for Lower Denkyira, has, on behalf of the government, expressed his appreciation to the external and internal directors of the WVI for assisting the district assembly to improve the lot of the people.
He mentioned health, water, sanitation and education as areas where the WVG had played key roles since it began its activities there in 1995. Mr Amponsah assured WVG officers and workers in the district of his administration's co-operation and support for all programmes initiated for the people.
Mr G.S.D. Nkrumah, NFED District Co-ordinator, thanked the WVG for providing about nine million cedis worth of motorbike spare parts, gas lamps, lanterns and teaching and learning aids to support adult literacy activities in the District.
