Wa Central MP meets constituents to account for his Common Fund

Wa, Feb. 20, GNA - Mr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wa Central Constituency has met a large number of his constituents and briefed them on what he has been doing for them as a Parliamentarian and also gave an account of how he utilized his MP's share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund (DACF).

Mr Pelpuo, who entered Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in January 2005, said he had so far spent 203 million cedis of his common fund on a number of development programmes, with education taking the largest chunk of the amount.

The function, which attracted participants from all the political parties in the area, afforded the participants the opportunity to raise their concerns on issues that were currently raging in Parliament, especially the Representative of the People Amendment Bill (ROPAB). While the meeting was going on at the Wa Community Centre, armed Police personnel stormed the precincts of the building in search of unregistered motorbikes and those who rode them there without wearing crash helmets, the commotion that ensued outside the centre, led to the arrest of one person and there was a brief hold-up.

Mr Pelpuo said programmes undertaken with the amount included, rehabilitation of the TI Ahmadiyya Junior Secondary School (JSS) and the Adabiyya JSS, which together took 55 million cedis, the purchase of 95 bags of cement for the Limanyiri Model School, Ahmadiyya Day Nursery and the Mangu Primary and the sponsorship of four Medical Students at a total cost of 25 million cedis.

According to him, he also organized free mock examination for final year JSS students at a total cost of 30 million cedis and used 38 million cedis in paying the fees of 12 needy students from the constituency.

Twelve million cedis was used to purchase 15 units of solar lamps for 15 villages in the constituency, recreational facilities such as the purchase of footballs for the communities and trophies to be competed for annually.

At the meeting, the MP donated 15,000 exercise books worth 25 million cedis to the Wa Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service to be distributed to schools in the Municipality.
