Wa West MP to tackle educational deficiencies in constituency

Joseph Yieleh Chireh, the Wa West Member of Parliament has indicated his intention to redirect his share of the District Assemblies Common Fund to address the educational shortfalls in the constituency.

He said that owing to the alarming failure rate of Junior High School students in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in the constituency, he had decided to commit his share of the Fund to projects that would improve the lot of students in the area.

Addressing his constituents at a victory rally at Dabo near Wa, Mr Chireh indicated that he would engage the services of teachers to ensure that students in the constituency made better grades in their examinations and competed fairly with students from other parts of the country.

He indicated that as a consequence, new students would not benefit from scholarships but that continuing students in health-related courses who were already enjoying support from the fund would receive money to complete their education.

The MP assured the people that he would use his renewed mandate to work tirelessly in collaboration with stakeholders to improve infrastructural deficits, amenities and social services in the constituency.

He said government would work to advance its “Better Ghana Agenda” and ensure that all schools under trees were eliminated, adding that communities without electricity would be connected to the national grid while youth unemployment would be addressed through skills development.

“Our victory calls for hard work for the next four years if we are to justify the vote of our people......We shall work to advance the Better Ghana Agenda by fulfilling our manifesto commitments”, he told his constituents.

Mr Chireh thanked the people for giving him yet another opportunity to represent them in Parliament and for ensuring a “one touch” victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said the party had taken note of certain shortcomings during campaigns in the constituency and would address them to avoid future lapses.
