Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to give credit where credit is due and stop insinuating comments that the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government milked the country’s coffers dry.

This follows credit given to former President John Agyekum Kufuor by Nana Akufo-Addo for the Wa Water Supply Project which was commissioned yesterday.

Mr Iddrisu, speaking to Class News’ parliamentary correspondent, Ekow Annan, said government cannot lay credit for the Wa Water Supply Project since the loan for the approval was secured under the erstwhile NDC government.

The Tamale South lawmaker said: “What [money] has he brought as President? None. Yet, the country is being governed, state institutions are functioning and functioning properly thanks to what he has inherited. So for me, what is important is that he has inherited viable and strong institutions because I’m not aware the President has introduced any tax policy.

“So how is he able to run government, how is he able to pay workers? The infrastructure going on, he’s depending on some inheritance. Now, what is even more regrettable, for you the media, you must call the President to answer. He attributes the $50 million, this project to President Kufuor and that is not candid. This $50 million project from the Korean government is part of what they chastise and bastardised the NDC over that.

“Part of the money was to improve and increase access to water supply to Wa and its surrounding areas. We borrowed, but we borrowed for a good cause, but I think that one of the things which should help the politics of our country is for us to begin to acknowledge and give praise where we have to and recognition where we have to. Like it or not, a seven-month government could not have given birth to that pregnant water supply and expanding access to water supply. It’s not practically possible. It is one of the positive inheritances.”
