Wassa East Assembly innovates and models Town Hall Meeting in Ghana

Wassa East District Assembly took its turn of the Ministry of Information Collaborative District Town Hall Meetings on Tuesday 28th August at the district capital Daboase, and introduced an innovative Service Fair as part of the event.

In all 22 Exhibitors made up of strategic Departments of the Assembly and Civil Society, Corporate Partners and NGOs led by the Agric Department and Business Advisory Centre open up to the general public to provide information and guide to access the services they provide at the Assembly.

The accountability forum ably chaired by Nana Kwuaidukyerefo III, Divisional Chief of Sekeyere Hemang flanked by Mamponsoman Hene, Nana Kwamena Damoah III featured a 30minutes Power point presentation on the Development Policies and Achievement of Central Government delivered by Nana Armstrong Asmah on behalf of Minister of Information and a 45minute profile and development achievements of the Assembly since 2017 delivered by the DCE Hon Wilson Arthur.

Hon Wilson Arthur revealed that under his leadership, Wassa East district is benefitting from an entrepreneurial governance approach. The private sector and the third sector are playing strategic development roles to compliment and take advantage of the investor friendly policies of NPP Government.

He cited the private investment of Skyy Football Club in turning the Stoney Daboase St Martin’s School Park into a Standard FIfA grass pitch with changing room and stands which has made it possible for GFA Division One matches to be hosted at Daboase boosting local economy. He showed how 357 Daboase Women responded to a communal labour to spread 60 trips of top soil used to grow the grass for the pitch.

For One District One Factory Policy, Hon Wilson Arthur announced that Plantation Socfinaf Ghana is in factory installation stage of a $20million Oil Palm mIll to add to Wassa East Quarry project set to start operations before end of year. The Wassaman Cassava Starch Factory, a third 1D1F initiative, has successfully gone through approval stage of the Assembly and Ministry of Trade and the Agric Department of the Assembly is proactively working on five Cassava species multiplication preparatory farms awaiting investors.

72% of the population of Wassa East earn their living in Agricultural sector. This explains the strategic investment in the sector aside human development. Forty five new Voluntary Mass spraying gangs are being resourced to compliment the productivity enhancement project of COCOBOD in the District.

In education, the District Administration sponsored two mock exams to prepare BECE candidates and this investment paid off with 29th position performance of the district. Twelve new ICT centres have been created awaiting NABCO digitize Ghana personnel to improve on teaching and learning of ICT in the district.

Hon Arthur’s Presentation garnished with video and evidence based pictures received sustained applauses from the citizenry and the challenge identified notably poor state of roads and urgent need for a bridge over the river Pra, upgrade of Daboase Secondary School into a model School and additional Secondary Schools at Atobiase and Ateiku run through the requests and contributions of Chiefs and Citizens during the question and contributions time.

The new vision of Wassa East District to become a model district known for responsive services that creates opportunities and prosperity for the benefit of her people is in deed on course.
