Kojo Oppong Nkrumah overcome with grief at the funeral
The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, broke down in tears during the final funeral rites of the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, at Akyem-Wenchi in the Eastern Region.
A video that has gone viral on Saturday, December 6, 2025, captured the lawmaker overwhelmed with emotions as mourners gathered to pay tribute to the late MP.

Kumi, who served as a first-time MP on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, had in recent months been at the centre of a major legal and political controversy over the legitimacy of the Akwatia parliamentary seat.
How late Ernest Kumi passed on before being called to the Bar in 2025
His death occurred just weeks after the Supreme Court overturned his contempt conviction relating to the disputed 2024 election results. Earlier, in February 2025, the Koforidua High Court had found him guilty after he defied an interim injunction preventing him from presenting himself for swearing-in as an MP.
The court later issued a bench warrant for his arrest, citing his failure to attend proceedings and his disregard for judicial orders.
