Youngster Josh Acheampong made his first Premier League start for Chelsea in their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday, January 4, 2024.
Acheampong partnered with Levi Colwill in defence, where he showcased leadership and composure at the back, earning praise from Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.
Prior to this match, Acheampong started two Europa League games against Astana and Shamrock Rovers.
According to Maresca, the 19-year-old had earned his Premier League debut with his solid performances, with the manager naming him Chelsea's best player on the day.
“All the players, for me, were good today, but if I had to choose one, Josh was the best player. He can be a top player for this club. We decided today because we saw he was ready. Today he showed how good he is,” Maresca said.
Acheampong played the full 90 minutes, making one clearance, winning one ground duel, and completing 85% of his passes accurately.
