Hundreds of residents converged on an overturned fuel tanker to siphon fuel following an accident on the Odumase-Accra Highway near Rider Steel Ghana.
A video shared by Citi News captured the scene as residents holding gallons and various containers, rushed to collect the leaking fuel.
The accident, which involved a VIP bus and a Toyota Camry, resulted in the tanker overturning and spilling its contents.
Despite the immediate dangers, including the risk of explosion, the residents appeared undeterred by the warnings issued by police and fire service personnel at the scene.
ADO I Bans, a representative from the fire service, expressed frustration over the residents' refusal to heed safety warnings.
In an interview, he detailed the situation, stating, “We received a distress call that there was an accident at this stretch involving a VIP and a Toyota Camry. Right now, we have been able to rescue one person."
He continued, "You can see that there is a crowd siphoning fuel. We had the military and the police assisting us, but still, they are adamant in siphoning.”
