The Chief Imam (in white) stands at attention during the national anthem
President John Dramani Mahama has, on a number of occasions, drawn praises from the public for his deep regard for the National Anthem of Ghana, usually because he would be caught stopping whatever he is doing just to observe the moment.
The latest personality to have mimicked the president’s public action is the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu.
A viral video cited by GhanaWeb has shown the moment the National Chief Imam was arriving for the commissioning of a mosque by President John Dramani Mahama at Akweteyman in Accra.
In the video, a military officer is seen prompting the Chief Imam’s entourage to stand in attention because the national anthem was being played.
“They are playing the national anthem, so they should wait,” the officer is captured saying as he made gestures for them to stop.
Despite initial hesitation that the Chief Imam could not stand because of his bad legs, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu, with the help of his men, defied the concerns and stayed in attention position until the national anthem ended.
After the anthem ended, the crowd broke into cheers for the Chief Imam.
