The gruesome murder of three High Court Judges in 1982 serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges Ghana faced in its journey towards democracy and the importance of upholding justice and human rights.

The tragic event, which occurred on June 30, 1982, shook the nation to the core during a period of political instability and turmoil in the country.

That very night of the incident, three High Court Judges, Justices Fred Poku Sarkodee, Cecilia Koranteng-Addow, and Kwadwo Agyei Agyapong, along with a retired army officer, Major Sam Acquah, were abducted from their homes and brutally murdered.

Their remains were discovered at the Bundase Military Range during the early days of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) regime led by Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings.

Following the murders, an initial investigation and inquiry was launched with key suspects including Captain Kojo Tsikata, a PNDC member, and Lance Corporal Amedeka, among others.

Justice Azu Crabbe, who chaired the Special Investigation Board (SIB) set up to probe the murders, later implicated several individuals in the murder.

Lance Corporal Amedeka was sentenced to death in absentia, while others received various sentences.

The murder of the three judges was widely condemned by many both locally and internationally.

A video of the State Funeral held for the three judges in July 1982 has since emerged on social media.
