Tema, Nov. 22, GNA - A 23-year-old watchman who stole a fishing twine from a fishing vessel and swam with it to the shore has been jailed 18 months by the Tema circuit court 'B'. Peter Effum pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing the twine from the vessel, which had anchored in the breakwaters of the fishing harbour.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Ben Agbedanu told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that Effum, a watchman on board a fishing vessel, sneaked into another vessel nearby and stole the twine at about 0400 hours on November 5 this year.

Inspector Agbedanu said another watchman saw Effum cut the rope, put it in a fertilizer bag, threw it into the sea and swam across to the shore.

He said Effum was trailed to the fish market at the fishing harbour, where he had gone to sell the twine and was arrested.
