Water Aid Representative honoured with farewell

Accra, Sept. 20, GNA - Mr. Gorden Mumbo, Country Representative for Water Aid, Ghana, was on Friday honoured and bid farewell for his various contribution towards the provision of portable water to rural communities in the country.

Water Aid, an international NGO based in the United Kingdom, has been working with the partners round table a network of eight partners to assist rural and urban communities with the provision of potable water in developing countries.


Mr. Mambo was presented with a kente cloth and some parcels. Mr. Mambo, three years' stay in Ghana saw the provisions of potable water and sanitary facilities to over 50,000 people in various rural areas.


Speaking at a cocktail, Alhaji Idris Mustapha Ali, Works and Housing Minister expressed Ghana's appreciation to Mr. Mumbo and said his commitment and sense of correctness shall always be remembered by those who come into contact with him. He said, "we hope this distinguished feature of you shall always be with you, more importantly in your new appointment as Regional Manager of East Africa".


Alhaji Amadu Mahama, Chairman of PRT said for the past five year, Water Aid Ghana, has provided 2000 water points and 40,000 public places of convenient in rural communities in the country. He said every year, the organisation spends about one million dollars as the project in the country.

Mr. Mumbo thanked the PTR and the government and said he hope the project would continue with the same commitment and dedication to assist the people who currently do not have access to good drinking water. "Whatever we have, we should sincerely give to the people because this is the challenge to our development," he said.


Mr. Mumbo stressed the need for the PRT, especially the local staff to collaborate and work together because it is only then that the possibilities of reaching far could be attained.


He said, anybody connected with development issues should have the heart of a missionary so that he/she develops the attitude to assist people in need, adding, "let us stop thinking about the problems we are facing, but focus in the opportunities, so we can reach far."


Mr. Ambrose Dery, Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General and Dr. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta, Deputy Minister of Manpower Development and Employment who are Directors of PRT were also honoured and presented with gifts.
