Accra, March 3, GNA - Water Resources Commission (WRC) on Tuesday opened dialogue with stakeholders in the water sector to develop an effective means of managing the resources in the country. The communication forum was informed by the realisation that water resources were becoming increasingly scarce and the quality fast deteriorating due to the rapidly growing and diversified demand for the commodity.
Speaking at the forum, Dr Charles Biney, Acting Executive Secretary of WRC, said with the current increase in population and rapid urbanization, as well as pressure from industries, it had become necessary for the adoption of a system that would ensure proper management of water.
He said there was the need for individuals and organisations to change their attitude towards water usage, adding, "This requires a serious effort of awareness creation among politicians, decision-makers, professionals and all other interest groups". Dr Biney said the Commission would vigorously pursue its strategy of integrated water resource management to ensure that the economic and social effects of water utilization were maximized without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.
