WaterAid Ghana, an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) has called for immediate reduction in water tariffs.

According to WaterAid, there is a looming health threat among Ghanaians living in poverty following recent hikes in water tariffs.

The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) last year announced a 59.2 percent hike in electricity and water tariff which has been met with stiff resistance from labour unions.

Although some reductions were announced for electricity, water tariffs remained unchanged.

Water Aid wants government to as matter of urgency reduce the tariff on water.

Ibrahim Musah, Head of Policy and Partnership at WaterAid Ghana told Starr News that they are making the call due to the difficulties that Ghanaians face.
