Wayo Vows To Put NPP Into Opposition

The Leader and Founder of the United Renaissance Party (URP), Mr. Charles Kofi Wayo, has vowed to bring to an end what he described as ‘the culture of impunity and arrogance’ with which the ruling NPP has ruled the country since it was elected into power, and send them back into opposition to learn better ways to rule the country come 2008.

Mr. Wayo, characteristic of him, was at the throat of the ruling New Patriotic Party for doing little in turning the economy around. Speaking at the function at the Electoral Commission where the URP was issued with a party certificate, Mr. Wayo reiterated that the country was blessed with too many natural and human resources which when managed efficiently, could alleviate the citizenry of this country from the current economic woes.

He recounted further, that past and present leaders presented themselves as “saviours” but ended up being the “Dracula sucking the blood of the innocent people”. He questioned the wisdom in coining lovable words to describe the state of the economy when in reality the citizens live in abject poverty.

Mr. Wayo accused the Kufuor-led administration of nepotism, selfishness and blatant display of arrogance while the good people of Ghana lavish in poverty, adding that all that the NPP government had succeeded in doing was to accrue wealth for themselves and live the most opulent lifestyles to the detriment of the people.

He said the United Renaissance Party when given the bid to rule this country, would harness resources and experience which abound in the party to turn the failing economy back to an appreciable state. On issues concerning the recent energy crisis, Mr. Wayo said he has the expertise and the men to fix the problem and find a lasting solution to it.

He lamented that both the present and past governments had often put in ad-hoc measures in times of crisis but retired to dormancy when the problem seems over only to resurface again. He added that the present government’s blatant refusal to take suitable suggestions to help solve the energy crisis was a clear mark of the government’s insensitivity to the plight of the people.

He further stated that the party although new, had done a lot of its groundwork, which would see the party in power come 2008 to set the country free from its present state of economic bondage. He promised that the administration of the United Renaissance Party, which is solidly built on democracy and the rule of law, would provide a better alternative government to the good people of Ghana.
