We Won't Go to War Over Elections - NPP MP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman of the Asante Akyem North Constituency, Nana Adu Asabre, has assured Ghanaians that the party is not going to engage the use of unconstitutional methods to destablize the country as being propagated by the ruling National Democratic Congress.

He said the NPP does not own an army neither do it controls one, adding the party does not have the wherewithal to engage private armies as the NDC does.

"They are the ones who encourage macho men to disturb peace loving people". He pointed out that the NPP believe in constitutional procedures and peaceful means of seeking redress and will not depart from these virtues of modern governance of civilized nations. "If the NDC leaders want to beat the war drums", he noted, "it must find its dancers". Nana Asabre said this recently at an NPP rally organized at Dwease/Praaso in the Asante Akyem North Constituency.

He also assured Ghanaians and the International community that when the party wins this year's election it will be a period of sober stock taking and a decisive movement towards building a solid economic and social platform on which all Ghanaians can stand in order to make life more meaningful. The NPP Top Gun disclosed that many Ghanaians, including members of the NDC are aware of the fact that the difficulties faced by this country is due to the bad governance by the Rawlings ruling clique.

This, he mentioned, is to the extent that the NDC leadership has set out to intimidate its own members not to complain about their bad modus operandi in handling national issues and government programmes. "The NDC is telling its members lies", continued Nana Asabre "that should the NDC lose the 2000 elections to the opposition, especially the NPP the new government will not spare anybody who had links with the P/NDC".

He called on NDC members who feel uncomfortable with the party to emulate the examples of their former compatriots who are largely founders and leading members of the National Reform Party (NRP). The NPP Asante Akyem North Constituency Chairman noted that the party is aware of the dedication of many NDC party faithful who were neglected and dumped immediately after elections and When new elections approach then the leaders go back for them to do the all the walking and talking".
