We accept your apology but let's debate your claims - CPP to NAPO

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has challenged the running mate of the NPP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to a debate on who, between Kwame Nkrumah and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, achieved more as president.

According to a press release signed by Sylvester Sarpong-Soprano, Director of Communications of the CPP, while the party accepts, in principle, the apology issued by the former Minister of Energy concerning his comments about the political achievements between the two leaders, it would appreciate a debate on the claims nonetheless.

He explained that the achievements of Kwame Nkrumah were accomplished in an era where there was no internet but they have remained relevant to date.

“Context is important here and it is instructive to note that the population of Ghana at the time was around 5 million citizens, showing the magnitude of the CPP's achievements; + there was no internet at the time.

“… We could go on and on and on, however, I, Sylvester Sarpong-Soprano, the Director of Communications of the Convention Peoples Party, (CPP), challenge Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh to a debate on the record of President Akufo-Addo, versus the record of President Kwame Nkrumah in two weeks from today, at the British Council Hall in Accra – or if he prefers, at the NPP headquarters in Accra,” the statement said.

The CPP statement also listed out a number of areas of the economy and some of the achievements of Kwame Nkrumah.

It will be recalled that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), during an event in Kumasi to official introduce him as the 2024 running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stated that no president in the history of Ghana, including Nkrumah, has been more accomplished that Nana Akufo-Addo.

NAPO has since apologized for making that comparison, stating that he did not mean to undermine the achievements of any of the past presidents.
