We are coming back to our roots - Former Ivory Coast President

A former President of Ivory Coast has announced his family's intention to return to Nsuta in Ashanti Region from where his grandparents are said to have migrated.

Henri Konan Bedie says tracing his roots offers opportunity to reunite with relatives to enhance preservation and protection of Asante culture.

Mr. Bedie’s arrival brought joy to the people as many of them besieged the forecourt of the palace to catch a glimpse of him.

Many students and residents lined up on the street to welcome him and appreciate his return to his roots.

After exchanging greetings with Nsutamanhene, Nana Adu Agyei Bosanfo the third, libation was made to signal the beginning of the durbar.

His Excellency Henri Konan Bedie who spoke in French said they aren’t lost of their origin and that, they formed royal family in LA Cote D'Ivoire. He said it was necessary to trace their roots to Nsuta.

In a short speech, Mr. Konan Bedie greeted the people of Nsuta; and the entire palace adding that, where one finds their legs, there is always the feeling of the heart.

He announced the royal family in Cote D'Ivoire's recognition of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu the second as their king.

Nana Adu Agyei Bosanfo appealed to Mr. Bedie to bring development to the area. He asked for technical institution that would help train the youth in the town. Nsumanhene also released a land to President Bedie construct a house for themselves.

Mr. Bedie ruled Ivory Coast from 7 December 1993 – 24 December 1999.
