A former Member of Parliament for Bortianor‑Ngleshie Amanfro and General Secretary hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sylvester Tetteh, has engaged party grassroots members and communicators at a meeting aimed at outlining his vision for the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Addressing the gathering, Tetteh stressed that leadership must be shaped by the political moment.

He described the party’s current situation as one that requires what he termed a 'wartime general,' rather than a peacetime leader.

“This time, we are going to war, and we need a wartime general,” he said, explaining that the role of General Secretary in opposition demands resilience, clarity of purpose and strong political communication.

According to him, three key qualities should define the next NPP General Secretary: experience, strategic thinking, and a strong political voice.

He argued that an opposition general secretary must be able to speak forcefully in a way that resonates across the country, from Accra to the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions.

“If you speak in Accra and your communicators across the country cannot echo and defend that message, then you are not functioning as a general secretary in opposition,” he noted.

He cautioned party members against complacency, saying victory in the next elections would not come easily but would require hard work, discipline and carefully planned strategies.

Touching on internal party unity, Tetteh stressed that the NPP must always come before individual ambitions.

He recalled his role in party activities during the 2023 election period and said his actions have consistently been guided by loyalty to the party rather than to personalities.
