A group of young men who claim to be unemployed graduates in Tarkwa have appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and businessman Ibrahim Mahama to intervene in their dispute with AngloGold Ashanti over access to small-scale mining sites in the area.

In a post shared on X on May 23, 2026, the graduates claimed they had been removed from mining sites that previously served as a source of livelihood for them.

According to the group, heavily armed security personnel have prevented them from accessing the sites, leaving many of them struggling to survive despite being university graduates.

One of the graduates, who wore souvenirs from his university during the appeal, said they turned to small-scale mining due to unemployment and economic hardship.

“We are graduates but unemployed. We do not find small-scale mining appealing but we were doing it to survive, but we have now been kept away by heavily armed security personnel. We are hungry, we are tired. H.E John Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama come to our aid,” he pleaded.

The graduates also proposed that the mining concession be handed over to a Ghanaian-owned company so that residents in the community could directly benefit from the area’s natural resources.
