We are not here to overthrow gov't - Akufo-Addo

2016 Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has challenged President Mahama to change his governance style if the country is to be put on a sound footing.

Speaking at the NPP's ongoing anti-government demonstration, Nana Addo reminded Ghanaians that the party is not out there on the streets to overthrow the Government but to demand accountability and better performance.

He says if the President would not listen to the complaints of the party as he is alleged to have said, Ghanaians will listen. Nana Addo said the demonstration is a peaceful exercise adding the party has asked the police to arrest and deal accordingly with any individual or group that misconducts themselves.

He said they were out there to do God's will saying, "We did not come here to cause confusion. The battle is of the Lord's and the battle continues to be that of the Lord. We put our trust in the almighty God to come and glorify himself. Let's all come together and ask the President John Mahama to listen to our cries and change the way he is doing things".

The march, which gathered momentum from the Obra Spot at Circle, is underway in major streets of the capital. Hundreds of party loyalists who arrived in the capital city from other parts of the country, are clad in black to signify darkness and in some cases red apparels which depicts their seriousness.

The demonstration, dubbed ‘W?n Gbo’ which literally means we’re dying, has seen many carrying placards some of which read 'Mahama, we are tired' Mahama dumsor wura', Mahama when will you step down'?. All national executives of the party are leading the demonstration including the party's Flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his Running Mate Dr. Bawumiah, Alan Kyeremangten, Osafo Marfo, Kennedy Agyepong and many more bigwigs of the party.

Although the police are there in their numbers, crowd control appears to be difficult. According to the NPP, the demonstration is aimed at keeping government on its toes and also to alert government that it has failed in the delivery of its mandate.

Key amongst the reasons being cited by the NPP for the demonstration is the incessant power outage popularly referred to as ‘Dumsor’.
