The Senior Staff Association and the Health Service Workers Union of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has served notice that its members are not in a hurry for a new board, hence government should disregard a purported letter calling on the president to constitute a board.

A group called Concerned Action Movement wrote the letter in which it called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to reconstitute the Board.

“We deem this action as highly inappropriate and an attempt to stampede government into hasty reconstitution of the Korie-Bu Teaching Hospital Board,” a statement from the union and the association said.

“We trust government's ability to constitute a fitting Board that will team up with management to continue the positive works we have witnessed lately under the leadership of the Acting Chief Executive, Dr Felix Anyah,” the statement added.

Under Dr Anyah’s leadership, the Union and Association said the hospital has been able to refurbish the oxygen plants, which is saving the hospital thousands of cedis; put in place ICT and telephone systems in sensitive areas, donated a food van, motorbikes for security patrols in the hospital, two cars as awards to elicit the best performance and attitudes from staff and the peaceful staff/ management relationship.

The Association and Union said they are convinced Dr Anyah has the vision and the requisite experience to transform the hospital.

The statement noted that: “Even though many are of the view that Korle-Bu should have had a Board in place by now, we are optimistic that government is considering giving us capable and credible individuals with the requisite experience to team up with the CEO to improve the fortunes of the hospital.”

The statement further asked the public to disregard a front page story of the Ghanaian Times newspaper dated 6 February 2018, headlined: ‘Korle-Bu DNA machine seized, resold to the Trust Hospital due to Korle-Bu's failure to pay for it,’ because the incident happened three years ago under the then-administration of ex-CEO, Dr Gilbert Buckle.
