Deputy Minister of the Monitoring and Evaluation Ministry and Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Honourable William Kwasi Sabi, has disclosed that the ministry has only thirty (30) staff across the country who monitor and evaluate programmes by the Government.
He added that even though they are few under the ministry, their work is in no way affected by their number.
In an interview with Happy FM’s Kwame Afrifa Mensah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he explained how the ministry worked.
“The truth of the matter is that we wish our ministry could monitor and evaluate all works. But we have less staff. We are 30 in number all around the country. So the President gave specific areas pertinent to the success of his government. These are the flagship programs and development interventions such as Free SHS, Planting for Food and Export, One District, One Factory as well as following the economic indicators such as the GDP”.
He noted, however, that even though the ministry does not evaluate all other ministries and programmes, the specific ones the ministry monitors affects all other programmes.
“If we are able to evaluate these well it will affect all other programs. That does not mean all other programmes aren’t important”, he added.
President Akufo-Addo introduced the Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation to supervise the affairs of all other ministries.
