The over 30 head potters, who were arrested yesterday at Ejisu by the Ashanti Regional Police, in a truck vehicle have for the first time spoken.

According to the leader of the group of women, though they came to Accra in search of greener pastures, their place of shelter has been the streets of the capital city.

Hence it was prudent for them to go back to their hometown; where they have a better place to lay their heads during the period of the lockdown as directed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

"We came to Accra to look for something to eat. We don't have anyone in Accra to give us shelter, we have been sleeping on the streets. We decided to go back to our hometown, when we were told there is an outbreak of a disease in Ghana and only return when the whole situation is resolved."

After several unsuccessful attempts in getting a public transport vehicle to convey us to Tamale, we begged the truck driver to convey us since he was driving empty to Walewale.

"We bought tickets at Tudu but when it got to our turn, the vehicle was full because there were lots of travelers at the station. We waited till Sunday 3 pm but there was no bus, hence I spoke to Fuseinu to help us," she told UTV in an interview monitored by GhanaWeb.

A reluctant Fuseini explained that his truck only transports food commodities but not human beings finally decided to help them by covering the truck with tapoli to shield them from rains.

However, luck eluded them when after being allowed to drive on by some police officers at Nkawkaw, they were later apprehended by some military men at Ejisu.

"They beat Fuseini and asked him to drive us back to Accra," she reiterated.
