Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is the Minister of Foreign Affairs
Ghanaian lawyer Vicky Bright, reacting to Ghana’s evacuation plans announced by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said the decision reflects responsible governance in the face of escalating xenophobic attacks.
She said while migration is natural, the safety of citizens abroad remains a non-negotiable duty of the state.
“We are glad to welcome them because they are Ghanaian citizens,” the lawyer and former minister said on JoyNews.
She explained that although some migrants may be in irregular conditions, the urgency of the situation justifies their return.
Comparing the response to global practices, she referenced the principle that some states do not “leave their citizens behind” during crises.
She added that Ghana’s diplomatic petition to the African Union is a necessary step toward a broader continental resolution.
