The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, has explained why the Ministry settled on the blue and white colours for new public school buildings and uniforms.

In an interview with GHOne TV, Mr. Kwarteng said, “we chose blue and white as colours for the new school buildings and uniforms because they are bright colours.”

There have been reports that government through the Ministry, intends to repaint all public basic schools from their existing brown and yellow to blue and white.

The Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who made the disclosure at a forum titled “The Free SHS Story” in Accra on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, said this program is only one of many designed to revive and improve basic education in the nation.

“We are switching to blue and white. This forms part of a rebranding plan meant to improve the schools’ visual appeal.

He also announced that the brown and yellow uniforms would be replaced.

“We are changing the uniforms of public basic schools in the country. The yellow and brown that you see now, you will see no more. Reformation is coming to a community near you, and you will see it.”

But Kwasi Kwarteng in a statement, clarified that:

“Contrary to the reports, the Ministry of Education isn’t changing uniforms for all public schools. Neither is the Ministry repainting existing ones.

“The initiative focuses on newly built schools, aiming to uplift their appearance and enhance public confidence in public basic schools.

“Similar to senior high schools, junior high schools may have options for uniforms, but it doesn’t imply a widespread change.

“The emphasis is on enhancing the aesthetic of new school facilities, not altering existing ones.”
