Bishop Addae-Mensah, the Founder and Head Pastor of the Gospel Light International Church has insisted that he and other members of the clergy would pray ceaselessly for peace in Ghana in spite of the verbal attacks on those who opt for this spiritual path.
The man of God was speaking to the DAILY GUIDE in the light of the recent verbal attacks on Pastor Mensa Otabil when he prayed for the country against bloodshed and civil strife.
He expressed surprise that persons who pray for the nation like Pastor Otabil and others are doing should be subjected to such verbal assaults.
Prayers he said have bettered the condition of Ghana recalling that under the Kufuor regime, such spiritual intervention supported the country through hard times. “After looking for oil for many years to no avail I told President Kufuor to order a befitting burial for the past leaders of the country which was done. It was after this amidst prayers that God blessed us with the discovery of oil. It is amazing that today those who pray and ask others to do same are described as suffering from high fever,” he said.
Such reactions he said are not surprising as he referred to the scriptures particularly the book of Acts Chapter 2 vrs 4-13, where some men of God while talking about God and some realities of the times were regarded as being drunk.
“We would continue to pray for the nation. Pastor Otabil did not pray for the destruction of the country but its protection against civil strife and evil. If as a result of the prayers we are engaged in they have decided to say we are suffering from high fever so be it. The answer will be in the results that follow so we are not bothered at all,” he said.
“When charismatic churches started in the country, such persons he said described them as mushroom churches in a contemptuous fashion, but today, see the contribution they are making towards both spiritual and educational development of the nation through the establishment of universities and other intangible advantages.”
