The National Security Council Secretariat has denied reports in the media by a deputy editor of online news portal MordernGhana.com, Emmanuel Ajarfor Abugri, claiming that he was tortured and manhandled during his interrogation.
In a statement, the Secretariat explained that the allegations are false, stressing that it is a deliberate attempt by the suspect to discredit the investigations and the case against him.
“Torture and manhandling of suspects are not part and parcel of the culture and architecture of the secretariat under the administration of President Akufo-Addo,” the statement said.
It reads further that “The suspect during questioning was never manhandled neither was he subject to any form of forced physical contact.”
The statement then added that the National Security Council Secretariat is pleased to note that “upon being handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, the Police has requested that a medical investigation on the suspect be undertaken immediately.”
