Senior Project Manager, Ing. Abdulai Mahama, has outlined factors that have contributed to the delay in the completion of the Ofankor-Nsawam road.

According to him, contractors had to wait three and a half months for the return of some gods since they had traveled. This was because a shrine they had encountered needed to be demolished to pave the way for road construction.

He further explained that they had to provide money and cattle as offerings to appease the shrine before they were granted permission to proceed.

In an interview on Adom TV’s current affairs show, The Big Agenda, Mahama said, “My sister, during construction, we encountered a shrine. We consulted the locals and were told the gods had traveled, which delayed us for three and a half months. We had to pay for two cattle and provide money before we were allowed to continue work,” Mr. Mahama explained.

Mahama further cited additional factors contributing to the delays, including the need to reposition ECG and GRIDCO high-tension wires.

He also noted that addressing the concerns of settlers and landlords whose properties were affected by the construction added to the delays.

The Ofankor-Nsawam road construction project, which commenced in September 2022, was expected to be completed within 2 years but is currently about 60% complete.
