Operation Vanguard has denied involvement in the killing of four suspected illegal miners at Bomaa in the Atiwa district of the Eastern region. Bodies of the four were found in a river with cuts and bruises.

The residents are accusing the anti-galamsey taskforce of killing the miners and dumping their bodies in the river.

On Sunday irate residents mounted road blocks and attacked the Police station to oppose the transfer of the bodies from the site.

Reacting to the charges, the Operations Commander of the taskforce Colonel William Agyepong said the taskforce was not in the community when the victims were killed.

“ We haven’t gotten close to that village by virtue of the activities we are conducting. The furthest we have gotten is Akrofofo which is about three villages before Bomaa. Indeed on Sunday, we went for Patrol there but everything ended around 17:30. We haven’t conducted any operation in that area, our insignia is very visible, we have a different uniform, the incident has nothing to do with our operation.

“We haven’t conducted any operation in that area, our insignia is very visible, we have a different uniform, the incident has nothing to do with operation vanguard and our personnel have had no clashes with locals there,” he said.
