Some neighbouring residents who have been ordered by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), to evacuate their homes around a four-storey building which has become a threat to public safety said they have nowhere to go.

According to the residents the building has been there for a long time and if the AMA has heed to their calls earlier it would not have gotten to its current state.

They said they have called on the authorities responsible for public safe when they started hearing cracks from the building about three weeks ago but nothing has since been done.

“About three weeks ago we started hearing the cracks from the building like an earthquake. We called the disaster unit, the fire service and they’ve been here but nothing has been done,” an aggrieved residents lamented.

She added that, “The AMA visited the place and gave us notice to evacuate our building but haven’t given us a place to go. So where do we go and who is going to foot the bill? We don’t know where to go.”

Meanwhile, the AMA has directed the building to be demolished on Friday December 16, 2016 and has asked residents to comply by evacuating their homes.
