We have not commenced printing of ballot papers – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has denied claims that it has started printing ballot papers for the upcoming 2024 General Election.

In a statement issued by Mr. Samuel Tettey, Deputy EC Chair in Charge of Operations, the Commission acknowledged public statements suggesting that the EC had not provided necessary ballot statistics before printing.

“We would like to assure the General Public that printing of ballot papers has not commenced.

“Printing of Notices of Poll for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, however, begins on Friday, 11th October, 2024,” the EC said.

The EC clarified that, by convention, it would provide ballot statistics to candidates, political parties, and printing houses before any printing of ballot papers begins.

The Commission assured that the printing process would only commence once those statistics had been shared with all relevant stakeholders.

“The Commission will not depart from this practice.

“We urge the public and all stakeholders to trust the Electoral Commission to deliver transparent, credible, free and fair elections in December 2024,” it said.

The EC is set to re-exhibit the Provisional Voters’ Register online to enable voters to verify their details before finalizing the roll for the December 7 polls.

On that day, eligible Ghanaian voters would elect a president and members of Parliament for the 276 constituencies.

The EC has approved 13 presidential aspirants to participate in the elections, with the two main contenders being Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, representing the New Patriotic Party, and Former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress.
