The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Adda, has said government has the political will to fight the increasing spate of plastic pollution which has become inimical to the country's development.

According to him, there is an allocation of GHS200million to cater for the sanitation brigade in line with government's commitment to fighting the canker.

He stressed that government’s introduction of sanitation inspectors at various homes will go a long way to deal with the menace.

Speaking at this year's World Environmental Day organised by the Ghana Wildlife Society in partnership with the U.S. and Australian High Commission on Tuesday, 5 June 2018, Mr Adda said, government has resolved to shift from engineer landfill site into material recovery site to generate income.

Meanwhile, legislators are pushing for stringent regulations to curb plastic waste littering in the country.

Contributing to a statement on World Environment Day, the MPs called for attitudinal change and urged Ghanaians to emulate from Rwanda in the area of disposing of plastic waste.
