President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says despite Ghana not achieving all of its economic goals, there are still a number of solid reasons to rejoice as a nation.

According to him, Ghana is rather a blessed nation and must step forward to work towards its overall development.

“Since we gained our independence, we've had difficulties and we've stumbled in the search to reach our potentials but Ghana has never lost her position as the inspirational light of the African continent."

"At 63, we know that we have squandered many opportunities which would've brought us to the economic breakthrough to which we aspire. We lament the infrastructure deficit that plagues all sectors of our lives and a considerable number of our people who still live in poverty but if truth be told, we have solid reasons to rejoice and be thankful to the Almighty for Ghana is a blessed nation," he noted.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said this speaking at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on March 6.

Ghana today is celebrating a historic event, marking 63 years of self-rule by the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to have gained independence from colonial rule.

In attendance of the celebration would be Special Guest, Dr. Keith Rowley, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as his royal majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

The 42,000-capacity Baba Yara Sports Stadium is expected to be filled to capacity as Kumasi, Ghana’s oldest and second-largest city is hosting the event for the first time in the country’s history.

The anniversary is being commemorated under the theme, “Consolidating our Gains”.
