We knew Trump would win because his policies are aligned with ours - Former NDC MP

Former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Baba Jamal, has expressed that Donald Trump’s lead in the ongoing U.S. presidential election came as no surprise to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the NDC was optimistic about Trump's victory due to shared values and policies with the U.S. presidential candidate.

Speaking on Okay FM on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, Jamal explained that Trump’s campaign policies align with those of the NDC and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

He highlighted shared positions on sensitive topics like abortion and same-sex marriage.

“We knew Trump was going to win because, when you listen to his policies, you will see they mirror those we [NDC] have promoted here in Ghana,” Baba Jamal stated. “Trump stands against abortion and homosexuality, issues our candidate also opposes. Unlike the NPP, which has suggested acceptance of some of these ideas, the NDC remains firm on our stance.”

Jamal believes Trump’s projected victory is a reflection of conservative values being embraced by Americans, suggesting this could resonate similarly in Ghana.

“Americans have shown that ‘sankofa’ (a return to roots) is good, and this is exactly what we intend to replicate in our December elections,” he added.

With Trump in a leading position, Jamal confidently projected that Ghana's election could see similar results, predicting a “victory overflow.”

Media outlets, including CNN, Fox News, and the BBC, have placed Trump in a commanding lead after his victories in key battleground states like Pennsylvania and Georgia.
