Chairman for the People's National Convention (PNC) and Convener for the Ghana First Patriotic Front (GFPF), Bernard Mornah, says the group will continue to resist any attempts by the government to allow a military base in Ghana.
He added that the group will occupy any piece of land that will be demarcated for the purpose of the military base.
On March 23, 2018, Parliament ratified an agreement between the governments of Ghana and the USA on defence cooperation, the status of US forces, access to and use of agreed facilities and areas in Ghana.
President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has however denied that his government has offered a military base in Ghana to the United States of America.
The President added that the US has not made any request for such consideration and that, consistent with Ghana’s established foreign policy, his government would not consider any such request.
In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Bernard Mornah stated that the GFPF is not anti -American but will continue to fight for the right of Ghanaians.
According to him, the USA would have to use bulldozers and warships to evacuate them (group members) from the site.
“Let Nana Akufo Addo and his American allies know that we won't be intimidated by the so-called anger of the President. We will not accept an agreement that makes Ghana a subordinate country to the USA. We have seen the anger of most American Presidents among others and we are not deterred by that,” he added.
According to him, the USA must accept Ghana as a sovereign state no matter how powerful they are.
