Majority Leader Alban Bagbin has declared the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win the 2016 elections by a wide margin, despite the challenges which have bedevilled the government.

The MP for Nadowli-Kaleo has therefore stated the Umbrella family will retain its majority in Parliament by winning 184 seats after the December 7 elections as against its current 148. The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has 121 seats in the House, the People’s National Convention (PNC) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) have one each and four independent lawmakers totaling 275 constituencies.

Speaking at the launch of the party’s 2016 Manifesto in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region, Saturday, Bagbin said the NDC is targeting 57% win after the election to give President John Mahama a second term.

He said Mahama has “unprecedented record of achievements” with the “right ideas and credible policies found in the manifesto” being launched.

The veteran lawmaker has therefore entreated the electorate to have confidence in the governing NDC because it has “a galaxy of capable messengers in our Parliamentary Candidates and with John Mahama as our candidate I am more than confident NDC will win with a wide margin.”

He said: “The 57% target I want to assure all of you is achievable. We have to work hard, no complacency and be vigilant on Election Day. Let’s fulfil the prophesy… 184 MPs is our target and we’ll achieve that. Ghanaians have seen the rest and it’s now time to receive the best.”

Over 50,000 supporters have gathered at the Sunyani Coronation Park for the manifesto launch.
