Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday assured the Muslim Community that the Government would work for the wellbeing of the entire citizenry devoid of any discrimination on the basis of religious or ethnic background.

He said the New Patriotic Party sought political power to rescue Ghanaians from economic difficulties as well as helping the under-privileged and vulnerable in the society from poverty so that the wealth of the nation would affect everybody.

Dr Bawumia said this when the Tijaniyya Muslim Council paid a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

He said the Government would never neglect the Muslim Community and that it had demonstrated its commitment by establishing the Inner Cities and Zongo Development Ministry to champion the cause of Muslims in the country, adding that the Zongo Fund would be a reality.

The Vice President said it was time the country departed from the politics of “rice and sugar’’ and rather champion policies and programmes that would create jobs for the youth and enhance the welfare of the people.

He said when the Government succeeded in its development agenda it would trickle down to the entire citizenry and, therefore, asked for the continued support of the Council.

He commended the Council for taking time off its busy schedule to visit him and thus used the occasion to thank the Council for supporting him and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the electioneering period with intercessory prayers that culminated their victory.

Sheikh Mutawakil, the spokesperson for the delegation, said the Council came to the seat of government purposely to congratulate the New Patriotic Party and the Government for their victory in last year’s elections, and also to share with them the joy, mercy and favour Allah had bestowed on the people of Ghana for a successful and peaceful election.

He stated that the change that came through the polls should transcend in various aspects of life in order to propel the development agenda of the country.
