Tema, May 8, GNA - Hajia Zeinab Abdulai, Tema Metropolitan Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has pledged to work hard in collaboration with stakeholders to rid the Metropolis of floods. Hajia Zeinab, who made the remark at a clean-up exercise organised jointly by NADMO and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) on Saturday, said the exercise to be held monthly, would enable the Metropolis to prepare for the rainy season and also make the environment clean.

She noted that for the past five years, the Metropolis had experienced perennial floods during rainy seasons and said the time had come for all the major stakeholders to get actively involved in the campaign to get residents to keep clean environments in order to stem the tide of floods. Mr Kingsley Kwame Appiah, Presiding Member of TMA advised residents in the Metropolis to adhere to the bye-laws on sanitation, warning that the Assembly would strictly enforce the regulations to ensure that those who went contrary to them were sanctioned.

Mr Appiah appealed to officials of the Department of Urban Roads, to ensure that opened gutters within the Metropolis were covered to help prevent the outbreak of epidemics.

Participants in the eight-hour clean-up exercise included youth clubs, Churches and members of the security agencies.
