We must commend Akufo-Addo for the coronation of a new Yaa-Naa - Spio-Garbrah

Flagbearer hopeful of the National Democratic a congress (NDC), Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has commended President Akufo-Addo for his efforts toward the attainment of peace in Dagbon after many years of conflicts and instability.

Dr. Spio-Garbrah said, although successive governments put in efforts in ensuring that, there was lasting peace, unity and stability in the Dagbon area, the current president must be commended for seeing to the implementation of the roadmap which has seen to the coronation of a new Yaa-Naa.

He told Rainbow Radio’s morning show host Kwabena Agyapong that, this current feat is worth celebrating and has charged Ghanaians especially especially, residents in the Dagbon area to work together and maintain the peace attained.

He has however, challenged the ruling government to also focus attention on stabilising the cedi and work to maintain a robust economy in order to alleviate the hardship of citizens.

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appealed to all sons and daughters of Dagbon to unite behind the new Yaa-Na, Mahama Abukari II, describing him as a man of experience and dignity who will discharge the duties of his new office with distinction.

Speaking at the enskinment and outdooring ceremony of the new Ya-Naa at the Gbewaa Palace, in Yendi, on Friday, 25th January, 2019, President Akufo-Addo urged all to give Yaa-Na Mahama Abukari II all the support he requires, as he sets about to administer the affairs of the state of Dagbon.

“Naa, I know you are a man of peace and unity. I know, from a few decisions you have taken since your selection as Ya Naa, you are a man of reconciliation. I believe you are the man to reconcile Dagbon, and blunt the age-old rivalry of Abudu versus Andani, and put Dagbon back on the path to sustained progress and prosperity, as was envisaged by one of the greatest figures in the history of Dagbon, the 18th Ya-Naa, Naa Zangina,” the President said.

Describing the enskinment as “a truly historic ceremony”, President Akufo-Addo stated that the ceremony should put paid to a long struggle, over several decades, for the namship of Dagbon, which has brought in its wake death, destruction and retrogression of the Dagbon State.

“For me, as President of the Republic, I feel a sense of excitement because it is under my tenure of office that Dagbon, hopefully, finally, finds the path to lasting peace,” he added.

In admonishing citizens of Dagbon, President Akufo-Addo urged them to bear in mind that there would be a small minority who will not be happy with the new status quo.
