We’re dealing with water crisis – JCR President assures residents

JCR president of the Mensah Sarbah Hall, Derek Okai, has assured residents of the hall that his outfit is putting measures in place to solve the water crisis which has bedeviled the hall.

In an interview with UniversNews, he outlined reasons for the water shortage in the hall and recounted steps that have been taken to alleviate the issue.

At other parts of the block, their water is flowing. When you go to Block C, they have water at the moment because there is a borehole over there that supplies the block with water. That’s the main reason why some parts are flowing and some parts are not flowing. Some have larger reservoirs, others don’t have and some have boreholes but others don’t have. If you remember the hall was able to procure two 10 thousand liters of poly tanks for the hall to clear some of these water crisis but it’s still not enough and also the MP started a bore whole project at Annex B close to the alumni building and that has also not been completed,” He said.

Speaking further, he noted that despite steps already taken to curb the issue, his administration is facilitating the process by redrilling faulty boreholes in the hall.

“My administration is also looking at redrilling some bore wholes that are not working effectively and we hope that works and students begin to have access of water,” he added.

Derrick Okai wants residents of the hall to exercise patience and support the JCR leadership as it works to resolve the matter.

Background

Mensah Sarbah Hall is one of several halls on the University of Ghana campus that is embattled with a water crisis.

At the beginning of the second semester, the JCR of Legon Hall which is likewise faced with the challenge, took steps to procure water for the various poly tanks in the hall in order to control the situation at their end.

The Residents Board of the university had earlier assured students that they were working with the Ghana Water Company to resolve the issue.
